About the Fire Safety Branch

We are committed to providing a safer community in NSW by minimising the potential consequences of fires and other emergencies.

The Fire Safety Branch is part of the Community Safety Directorate under the Field Operations Division. Our primary objective is to protect the community by reducing the risks of fire and emergencies in the built environment – and protect the irreplaceable.

Our work

We provide consultancy services, assessment, technical advice, and enforcement to the building and fire safety industries, and offer guidance to authorities and government agencies to ensure fire safety is commensurate to identified risks, and comply with regulatory and statutory obligations.

  • Statutory consultation—We provide statutory consultation during the design phase, as a relevant stakeholder in all performance solutions relating to fire safety.
  • Technical assessment—We provide expert technical assessment to building proponents throughout all stages of the building lifecycle.
  • Regulatory guidance—We advise regulatory authorities and government agencies to ensure that fire safety measures align with identified risks and statutory obligations.
  • Compliance & risk reduction—We undertake strategic prevention and advisory activities, in addition to compliance and enforcement activities.
  • Policy & positions—We implement policies and positions that ensure consistent outcomes.
  • Stakeholder engagement—We consult with government agencies, the building industry, and professional bodies on statutory fire safety requirements and industry standards.
