Fire Safety Compliance Unit
The Fire Safety Compliance Unit is responsible for enforcing statutory fire safety in existing buildings. The unit comprise of staff authorised to inspect buildings and determine whether they have adequate provision for fire safety, and cases not, give a fire safety order to the building owner.
The unit will investigate fire safety concerns, particularly when relating to high public risk buildings such as shared accommodations and entertainment venues. The unit may also pro-actively and selectively target places of high risk, as deemed necessary in the public interest.
The unit also advise building owners and occupiers on Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) system requirements, including strategies to reduce unwanted false fire alarms.
Given the regulatory functions of the unit, the Fire Safety Compliance Unit almost exclusively operate with the relevant council for the subject building.
