Lodge a fire safety complaint
Any person identifying an issue with any fire safety measure in a building may lodge a fire safety complaint with FRNSW, who may inspect the premises and assess the matter.
Overview of service
When investigating a fire safety concern, FRNSW officers will assess the building holistically in an endeavour to determine if adequate provision for fire safety has been made. If it is determined that adequate provision for fire safety has not been made, an authorised fire officer may pursue enforcement or penalty action, including the issue of fire safety orders, or may refer the matter to the relevant council.
In the first instance, FRNSW recommend you notify the local council who are the regulatory authority for such matters. They have greater scope and powers to address concerns raised and, by volume of numbers, are also better resourced across NSW to investigate them. To find your local council, go to:
Note: General health and amenity issues, such as overgrown vegetation, accumulated rubbish or hoarding, illegally parked vehicles etc. should always be referred to council unless directly impacting on fire safety.
This service does not relate to reporting any high bush or grass fuel load that presents a hazard to property. Contact the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to report a bush fire hazard:
- Submit a Bush fire hazard reporting form, or
- Call 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737).
Charges for service
