Frequently asked questions

Infrastructure

Common frequently asked questions regarding business undertaken by the Fire Safety Infrastructure Unit can be found here. Please also refer to other unit FAQ pages if relevant.

If your general question is not addressed here, you can ask us a question.

I would like to request a meeting with the Fire Safety Infrastructure Unit to discuss multiple sites associated with my project. Is a single meeting application sufficient, or is a separate application required for each site?

A separate meeting application is required for each site. Multiple sites cannot be discussed during a single meeting.

What information do I need to provide to FRNSW in preparation for the meeting?

To ensure meetings run efficiently and that the appropriate FRNSW personnel are available to attend, the Fire Safety Infrastructure Unit requires the following information to be submitted either with the meeting application form or at least one week prior to the scheduled meeting:

  • PowerPoint presentation slides
  • Any additional material to be discussed during the meeting

If these items are not provided at least one week in advance, FRNSW attendance cannot be guaranteed, and the meeting may need to be rescheduled to the next available date.

I have submitted a request for a meeting with the Fire Safety Infrastructure Unit. How will I be notified if the meeting has been accepted or declined?

FRNSW will advise the applicant by email if the meeting application has been accepted or declined.

Where accepted, meeting details will also be confirmed. The meeting duration is determined at the discretion of FRNSW discretion and will be confirmed upon acceptance of the meeting. Meetings with the Fire Safety Infrastructure Unit generally have a duration of one hour.

I have submitted a PBDB for review, however FRNSW has not provided the response within the 20-day statutory timeframe. When will the response be issued?

Legislated response timeframes do not apply to PBDBs for State significant infrastructure (SSI) or Crown development. However, FRNSW will endeavour to meet these timeframes where possible.

If you require a status update on your PBDB for SSI or Crown development, please contact the Fire Safety Branch.

*Note: PBDBs for private schools and private hospitals are subject to the legislated response timeframes under section 26 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment (Development Certification and Fire Safety) Regulation 2021.
