New $4.2m Fire and Rescue NSW Station opens at Dungog

Published: 04 Sep 2025

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell and Member of the Legislative Council Emily Suvaal today opened the new $4.2 million Dungog Fire Station, strengthening fire and emergency response capability across the Hunter Valley.

Located on Common Road, Bendolba, the purpose-built facility replaces the original station built in 1928, which had dual frontages on Lord and Mackay Streets. Construction began in July last year and was completed in June.

The new station includes two engine bays with drive-through capability. It also includes:

  • A new watch-room, Commander’s office, and mess / training room
  • Dedicated personal protective clothing (PPC) storage area
  • Separate changing amenities for female firefighters
  • A gym and general storage areas
  • Zoned areas to limit the spread of hazardous particulate matter from firegrounds

Quotes attributable to Emily Suvaal MLC:

“This station represents the government’s latest investment in fire protection for the people of the Hunter.

"Combined with the new fire station at Cessnock, it brings total investment in the region to $11 million.

"It’s a major boost to the crews’ working conditions. At the old site, firefighters had to squeeze past PPE hanging in corridors and move between two separate buildings.

"In its place is a modern, centralised workplace with ample storage and a dedicated area for PPC.”

Quotes attributable to FRNSW Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell:

“We’re proud to deliver this modern, purpose-built station for our on-call firefighters in Dungog.

“Equipped with contemporary facilities, it will support firefighters to protect communities across the Hunter region.

“We worked closely with local firefighters to ensure the new Station meets their needs, including enhanced privacy provisions for our diverse workforce.

“The people of Dungog, and their firefighters, now have a station they can be proud of for many years to come.”
