Firefighters contain fire in e-bike shop

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have contained a major fire in an e-bike shop at Chippendale, in Sydney's CDB.
Just after 7am, FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls reporting flames and smoke coming from the ground floor of a shopfront believed to be an e-bike business, storing Lithium-ion batteries, in Regent Street, opposite Central Station.
Lithium-ion batteries are capable of intensifying fires and contribute to rapid fire spread, presenting additional risks for firefighters and the community.
Twelve fire trucks and around 40 firefighters attended and were confronted by heavy fire activity in the shop.
Firefighters worked for about 40 minutes to contain and control the blaze, preventing it from spreading to six levels of residential units above.
Wearing breathing apparatus, the crews conducted searches and evacuations in those apartments.
All occupants were safely evacuated. NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed residents who may have been exposed to smoke. No injuries were reported.
Crews are continuing to monitor the premises closely to ensure there is no reignition, as Lithium-ion batteries can reignite even after an initial fire is extinguished.
Firefighters have immersed Lithium-ion batteries, exposed to the fire, in water-filled drums to prevent ignition.
Operations will continue throughout the day, including investigations to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
