Top 10 alpine fire safety tips

  1. Keep all flammable items a metre from the heater - dry wet gear in drying rooms, never on a heater/heat source directly.
  2. Don’t charge phones on your pillow or in bed, only charge phones on hard surfaces.
  3. Clean the lint filter in clothes dryers after EVERY use.
  4. Supervise children around heaters and open fireplaces and use ember guards/fire screens on fireplaces at all times.
  5. Store cooled ashes in a tightly covered metal container and keep it outside at least 3 metres from any nearby buildings.
  6. Keep looking when cooking.
  7. Know where the fire exits, fire stairs and firefighting equipment are located.
  8. Make and practice an escape plan and decide on a safe meeting place away from the building and out of the cold.
  9. NEVER prop open or block exits or leave anything in fire stairs.
  10. Get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000).
